Workshop entitled "One city, one school": History, Art and Culture Courses in Athens"
Can an open city to become "school"? What do the urban landscape and culture have in common? These are just some of the questions that the speakers will try to answer at the workshop entitled: "One city, one school: History, Art and Culture Courses in Athens". The workshop which will be held on Monday, December 16, was jointly organized by the Onassis Cultural Center - NPO, the A.S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, and the Culture, Sport and Youth Organizations of the City of Athens. The event will be held at the City of Athens Cultural Center.
As mentioned in the respective announcement, the history of thousands of years will unfold a modern residential environment. The modern buildings, timeless monuments, parks, streets, squares, alleyways will narrate their story to young and old and will lead them to new paths of thought, creativity and reflection. Most of the museums, cultural centers and places of creation and expression are located within the city. Each of these has a lively presence and provides guests with exceptional opportunities as well learning and recreational abilities.
The workshop aims at showing how a city becomes an open school for all and the juncture of culture, literature and the arts in education, whether this refers to school or university students, or Greek or foreign adults, or other groups with special abilities. The workshop aims to highlight the best practices of cultural organizations that are involved in educational programs and the transfer of the experience of people in the educational community, for the production of new proposals that will strengthen partnerships in areas of culture and will broaden the students' inclusiveness.
The workshop falls under the announcement of the actions: "Summer Schools for Greek students, students from European classic senior high schools and students from American, Australian and Asian schools" which were implemented in 2012 and 2013 under the act "ACADEMY OF PLATO: Development of knowledge and innovative ideas" by the Onassis Cultural Center of the Onassis Foundation - NPO in collaboration with the A.S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Foundation of the Hellenic World. The project is co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and national resources through the operational program "Education and Lifelong Learning".
